PostSubject: My Project 240sx (S13): Resurrected   My Project 240sx (S13): Resurrected EmptyMon Aug 22, 2011 11:34 pm

Ok so some of you heard my story about my Blue S13 getting rear ended, after the insurance process I came up on another White 240sx and began work on it. Thanks to Garrett and Brent for your help.

The white 240sx has a bad engine and a good tranny, while the Blue 240sx has a good engine and a bad tranny. So first order of business is engine swap.

Here's a pic of the motor being pulled

This is what its going into, the car has been sitting for a while, but it is a very complete S13. Just need some love which I plan on giving it.

Bad Motor after being pulled. TADAAAA!

The good tranny and engine had sex and are now together in the White 240sx. Worked just fine after first start up. Next up is smog check and transferring over all the good stuff I put on the Blue one to the White one, i.e. Suspension, SS lines, Rims, etc. Also have big brake upgrade lined up, from 300ZX/Q45, 5-lug Conversion, Paint and Body work. Ill have more pics and updates down the road.

Thanks guys, did I mention we pulled 2 motors + trannys and installed 1 in the span of 12 hours, we were tired as hell at the end of the day.

12 hours? DAMN!

it took me a month to pull the head off a ka24

Then i snapped a headbolt, and now need another block. (probably gonna take me 2 months to figure out how to get the block off)

Looks like you are off to a great start. Paint still looks good on that white one.

OK Update time....

Went to an auto detail shop to try to find something that would remove the graffiti off my hood/bumper. Started with the mild shit, didnt do anything, went to their strong shit, started wiping the paint off, they basically told me the graffiti was on there too long and that I would have to repaint the car to get rid of it........

So I decided to get some 1000 grit sandpaper, and a power sander and got to work.

Heres a before shot, you can see where the shit the detail shop used ate away at the paint.

30 min in....

End Product

Also painted the rims Black

Overhauled the trash factory beat up suspension

Replaced Steering rack, Stainless steel high pressure power steering line, Tie rods, Rear Control Arms, Struts, Springs, Balanced wheels, and alignment

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

End Result, Nice smooth, straight ride, excellent turn ratio with the HICAS steering rack. Thanks Brent for putting in the work. thumbsup

More work to be done soon, ill update and add more pics.

PostSubject: Re: My Project 240sx (S13): Resurrected   My Project 240sx (S13): Resurrected EmptyWed Nov 02, 2011 9:29 pm

*Update*

My rear passenger axle was destroyed so it was time for a full rear axle, differential, sway bar swap.

For those of you that want to do this swap on your S13, heres some info. The VLSD thats on a 240sx only comes on the 240sx with the HICAS/ABS setup, if you grab a diff off a standard 240sx you will just be grabbing an open diff. Also if you manage to find a HICAS/ABS 240sx grab the rear sway bar for a cheap upgrade, they are bigger(21mm) than the standard 17mm SE Model and 15mm Non-SE Model Rear Sway Bar.. Also some people say you need to have the ABS driveshaft because the VLSD is .75" longer than the open Diff and therefore you need the shorter ABS driveshaft, this is not true because we were able to fit the longer Non-ABS driveshaft on there just fine.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hard to tell but heres the 21mm vs 17mm rear sway bar, 21mm only came on the ABS/VLSD package S13s

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

VLSD vs Open Diff, VLSD is slightly longer and has the ABS sensor attached.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And of course the most obvious way to see if you found a VLSD they all have the orange sticker on the side.

IF you find the parts off a S13 then there will be no modification needed, its direct bolt on. You can get one off a Z32 but there will be modification needed, or you can get a J30 one but the ratios will be lower.

240sx/300zx Diff ratio is 4.083 vs J30 3.916.

Thanks Brent and Garrett for helping with the swap. Took us about 4 hours lunch included. thumbsup
